Before you vote...

This is an exhausting and tense election. People I love fall on all sides and feel very strongly about what they believe. I don't want to enter into a lengthy debate over each candidate's platform. I'm very tired of the debate. Chalk it up to me being nine months pregnant and feeling like I could give birth any minute.

However, I did read an article that stunned me tonight. Maybe it will have no effect on you and maybe you'll think I'm off base to even post it. This is one of those times where I'm compelled to do what I would otherwise be too much of a coward to do. I know that many people feel that abortion has become a dead political issue, because it's been a fruitless struggle and little can be done in a pluralistic society like ours. While I disagree with you, I want to encourage you to read this article. It's written by a professor at Princeton who very clearly explains Obama's stance on abortion. His voting record is chilling. I've been debating whether or not to vote third party for awhile, but after reading this as well as paying close attention to each candidate's platform, I have made up my mind. I will not be voting third party.

May I encourage those of you who are pro-life and who are considering a vote for Obama to read this article and consider the effect Obama's extreme pro-abortion policies would have on so many women and children? My apologies to anyone I may have offended. I would simply like to pass this on to aid you in your effort to make an informed decision this election. Blessings to you and yours.

Thanks for posting this here, Karen. I clicked through to the supporting evidence for his lack of support for the bill to protect babies born alive after abortions. I find this quotation from him to be chilling:

Obama, Senate floor, 2001: Number one, whenever we define a previable fetus as a person that is protected by the equal protection clause or the other elements in the Constitution, what we’re really saying is, in fact, that they are persons that are entitled to the kinds of protections that would be provided to a – a child, a nine-month-old – child that was delivered to term. That determination then, essentially, if it was accepted by a court, would forbid abortions to take place. I mean, it – it would essentially bar abortions, because the equal protection clause does not allow somebody to kill a child, and if this is a child, then this would be an antiabortion statute.

Karen Thanks for posting this. It is a well thought out and well documented, but no news to me about Obama. Never before in my lifetime have I been "afraid" of a potential President. I think we may lose our democracy under him and so many people I know and trust seem to think that socialism is what they want.
I recently read comments from a Scottish professor in 1787. "A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the government. This is always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history is 200 years." Dependence on "the government" is the downfall in every case.
Please don't vote third party because it will only further ensure Obama's victory. I know I need to pray for God's mercy in these times for our freedoms and the lives of the unborn "persons that are entitled to the kinds of protection that would be provided to a child" - because it IS a child.
And like you I'm hesitant to "proclaim" my beliefs - but I'm not sure why. Just a coward I guess.

I agree with you Karen. And I believe no matter what the outcome is in the courts, each believers decision to protect lives that cannot be defended puts a mark in the heavens. What disturbs me is the argument that we have to seperate the abortion issue as a moral one and chalk it up to the "seperation of church and state" category. Huh?? Since when do we STOP voting according to God's law? I dunno. Thanks for being brave.

Thank you, Karen, for posting this link. It's is a really scary thought that this man could actually be voted into office. It makes me sick to think about it. I'm praying fervently that he does not win.

Proverbs 31:8 " Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.."
It does sadden me that among Christians the sanctity of life of unborn babies is a grey area.
With that said, I'm ashamed at the hateful and judgemental aproach that many pro-lifer's have taken to get their point accross.
To be honest, I'm not that crazy about either nominee. There does need to be more support and compassion for women who find themselves in with this difficult circumstance. But the fact that our country has allowed the lives of millions of unborn children to be taken for the sake of convenience is heart-wrenching. T Circumstances do not justify taking the life of a child. May God have mercy.

I'm not crazy about McCain either, but I REALLY don't want an avid pro-abortion candidate like Obama to be president. So, instead of voting for Ron Paul, I'm voting McCain. Over 40 million babies since 1973-- this has to stop.
