kind of an update

I still don't have test results. I know that Dana and Jane, at least, will have to have chelation. Chelation is a process where the doctor introduces certain compounds into their blood that the lead will stick to and then the lead flushes out of their system with the compounds. I don't know much more about it, but I'm guessing that they will have to be hospitalized for at least part of this. Clara will stay with friends if that happens. In the meantime, we will be going back to Chattanooga on Monday, after a trip to Trader Joe's. We've been making use of their wholesome goodness in an attempt to detoxify the kids and me. They sell a 64 oz. bottle of juice similar to Odwalla's Superfood juice. They love it and it's jammed with fiber and vitamin C, both of which are great for lead poisoning. Lots of fruit and greens right now.

As for where we will stay, I have had multiple offers, but I just don't know what will be best for our family yet. Thank you all for your hospitality and generosity and thank you for your prayers. Our first day here was very trying, but yesterday was much better. God is at work in me and in our kids. Thanks for your faithfulness in prayer.

Please make sure you let us know how we can help in the process. One thing: When we painted and my kids were little, I did tons of research and discovered a very helpful tidbit that seemed effective. Detergents containing high levels of phosphorous will bond with lead and wash them away. The good news: one of the best sources is very cheap dish detergent. The cheaper the better, since phosphorous is not usually a desirable quality in dish detergent, the cheaper the detergent the higher the phosphorous level usually is. Mix it with water and wash all surfaces that might have dust on them. Also works for clothes, just add to a load of laundry. HOWEVER, I did have one load of clothes that got bleached by the phosphorous, so be careful with that.

hey Karen,
What timeframe are you looking at for needing a place to stay? We'll be on vacation the 7th-21st if you'd like to house-sit for us :-) should be enough room for you if you need it. 821-8069

Karen,
I know that the source of exposure to lead in your case is fairly apparent, but I just wanted to let you know in case you had not heard already that the wooden Thomas trains have been recalled because of lead paint. Just thought I would let you know in case Dana has any.

About the Thomas Trains... There is a small list of the trains, which is mostly accessories that are being recalled. I have checked it (thanks to Lynn) and thankfully, none of them are toys that we own.
