much needed encouragement

I feel so encouraged by the women I have met in the last two days. Out of a need for support and a homeschooling community, I posted an email to our neighborhood listserve to see if any homeschooling moms in the neighborhood were interested in getting together once in awhile. I now have a list of ten women who are interested in some kind of get together, structured or purely social. Three of these women have boys Dana's age. Some of you who know me know what a big deal this is. Dana doesn't really know many boys his age, and the few he does know are going to school this year. His sensitive little heart so needs a buddy and I've been praying for a long time that we would find one for him. God is so good.

I'm a little nervous about the get togethers, mainly because I start so many things full steam ahead and then peter out too soon. My hope is that this group will somehow take on a life of its own and won't require much work, but we'll see. I don't have a clue what I'm doing. I hope someone a little wiser than me will have an opinion and maybe the energy and time to act on it. For now, I'm happy to say I have 10 homeschooling friends who live close by and who want to support each other. I certainly need the encouragement and I'm already basking in the joy of it. Thanks ladies.

This sounds really great Karen. I will pray that this will continue to blossom into a group that supports each other and provides a way for you to get your homeschooling "feet wet".

By the way, thanks so much to you and Matt for the loan of the helmut.

Hey Karen, I've been meaning to tell you, I contacted two of my friends: Missy Luce and Nancy Young Carter about your meeting and neither one could make it but they really wanted too. You can find them on my facebook or if you want to email me I can send you their emails. Missy has twin girls about to turn 5 and Nancy has Gus, of course, who's 6.

I'm so happy for you, I always keep homeschooling in the back of my mind, but it would have to be more of a cottage school situation for me. I love homeschooling, I can't wait to start teaching the 25 or so students I'll have this year! blessings and peace!

So that's how Missy and Nancy heard about it! They actually did make it and Gus was one of the boys I was referring to. Missy's girls are close to Janie's age too, so having them both involved is a huge blessing. Thanks for mentioning it to them ;).

Hi Karen, as Tad mentioned before I often look at your blog and I saw your invite to the park. We have been out of town and I wasn't able to make it, but I would have liked to attend seeing how there aren't many homeschoolers around us. Drennan just turned six. He loves playing with other kids!
